What We Do

Effective advocacy on policy and legislative matters is a hallmark of NYSRA member services.

Our accomplished staff, possessing years of policy and advocacy experience, is complemented by our professional team of highly-esteemed lobbyist who work tirelessly throughout the year to protect the interests of every NYSRA member because it is essential that NYSRA members have a strong and vigilant champion working on their behalf.

NYSRA's leadership role in policy and budget analysis dates to its inception more than 30 years ago. We know policy analysis. And, we know how to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies. All of which are vitally important in today’s climate. For this reason, our combined team constantly works to position our member’s priorities. We work to enhance our members' relationships with state agencies and strengthen our member’s impact on legislative thinking and decision-making.

Our approach to New York State policy and legislation is multi-pronged. Our policy and legislative priorities are identified by our members through NYSRA councils, then undertaken through regular contact with state agencies, key legislative leaders, Assembly and Senate committees, Division of the Budget and the Office of the Governor.

In the best interest of our members, NYSRA works in collaboration with other state-wide associations, advocacy groups, academia and the business community to advance the interests our member organizations and people with disabilities. Through partnerships with national organizations, NYSRA is able to weigh in on decision-making at the Federal level.
